Fashion Revolution Week- what this means for handmade fashion
On April 24 2013, the Rana Plaza complex in Dhaka, Bangladesh, collapsed killing 1134 people. This catastrophic event sparked the creation of Fashion
Revolution, an organisation focused on bringing together all facets of fashion
to create a more harmonious and sustainable fashion industry. Striving for transparency in the clothing industry,
Fashion Revolution wants you to ask labels ‘Who made my clothes?’
Small fashion labels like Alice Nightingale aim to create complete transparency in their chain of supply, from designing, sourcing fabric and manufacture to the hands of the customer. Our items are made by a team who wants you to have the best possible experience with your products, by means of unique designs and quality craftsmanship, so you don’t have to question the ethical nature or production of your clothes.
You can get involved by checking out the Fashion Revolution website and
upcoming events: http://fashionrevolution.org/country/australia/

Thinking Local: Australiana
As
technology makes our world a little smaller, the fashion community has become a
globalized population. With a few clicks we can live stream Paris Fashion Week
or style stalk New York locals, so it can be easy to get caught up in global
aesthetics and high fashion trends. We can promptly forget the unique climate
and aesthetic that Australian nature provides us with. So, for our newest
collection Alice Nightingale has taken a step back from the screens and looked
around us instead, showcasing prints and details unique to our beloved land
down under!

An ode to the sunshine state
Growing up in South East Queensland, I was immersed in the sunny, layed back culture that comes as standard. While I wasn't entirely a typical local of my hometown (The Gold Coast), with pale skin and a love of retro clothing, summer here will always bring with it fond memories.
Fresh tropical fruit, running over hot roads to hotter sand and hunting down the shady spots in local parks. Growing up in Queensland was a gorgeous thing.
I've lived in Brisbane for around 4 years now and feel I've come to appreciate the sunshine state even more. Our city is becoming cool. Yes, you heard it here. Cool. We have hipsters, great bands, lots of new live venues and a thriving cafe scene. We've made it. When I travel interstate, I now hear kind words about my home state and am eagerly asked where to get the best food or where they absolutely must visit whilst in town.
This summer I'm determined to get back to my Queensland roots, and celebrate all things Sunshine.
With Fleetwood Mac on steady rotation in my old queenslander, I bring you a sunny collection featuring my newest original print and embroidery laden pieces!

The look-book for the collection was shot by Brisbane photographers Tahlee and Reece Woodland who are undeniably the cutest husband/wife creative team ever!
We traveled to the far north coast of NSW to 'A-mazing place' a beautiful location that provided a fantastic backdrop for the shoot.
